Wing Ribs

skinning the left wing cont….

No plans this weekend and the weather was a bit gloomy, so it was a good day to spend working on the left wing.  I managed to lay out the offset rivet row where the skins overlap.  I made a small jig with a piece of .025 steel from the fuel tank strap material.  I calculate where I wanted the second row to land, to make sure it clears the rib and leaves enough material to flange down with the roller tool.  i made the edge of the jig where the skin ends so I just clecoed the piece of metal on the two holes, drilled the offset rivet hole and marked the edge with a sharpie.

I also set the aileron pocket ribs in place, all except for the outboard rib.  I will set the outboard pocket rib when the wing comes out of the jig and I have some room to work.

I also drilled the top flange of the rear spar to the skins the full length. I am pretty close to the point of taking it all apart, deburring, dimpling and priming to ready for riveting.  I’ve decided to rivet the top skins on before i cut and put on the bottom skin.
